Hi Roxann -

I watched the movie too, and if you're into lots of non-stop action and big special effects, then this is the movie for you. However, if you're into looking at this whole 2012 thing as a serious topic for discussion, whether you believe that something this disastrous is REALLY going to happen just 3 years from now, or even if you think that nothing will happen at all and are just amazed by how much energy is being given to the whole idea of it, then this movie wasn't going to satisfy your curiosity.

Here's what I think, Roxann. You shouldn't be worried about this. The arguments that nothing much will happen in 2012 are so far making a lot more sense than those that claim there will. Of course you're worried about your son, but no matter what happens, he has you looking out for him, so rest easy. Don't let a movie that's guaranteed to dish up disaster on a cosmic scale just to get people into the theaters scare you into believing it's really going to happen that way - Hollywood isn't noted for its rational and logical approach to dispensing information to the public.

My whole point in choosing this topic to have a website about is to offer up what the current thinking on the subject is (pro and con) and let people decide for themselves. Some people have accused me of just trying to scare everybody, but if you read some of the articles here, you'll see that really, I lean way toward the side of "everything will be ok". But because I don't know the future any more than anyone else, I also like to be prepared for anything that might happen, which is why I also offer products that will help you in case there really is some kind of an emergency. So to answer your last question about am I practicing what I preach here, well - in a way, yes. Even if the world doesn't blow up (and again, Roxann, don't be sitting around worried that it will - the research on this is overwhelmingly in favor of that NOT happening), there is no question that there will continue to be unexpected things happening all the time, like storms, earthquakes, floods, fires and so on. Nobody escapes Mother Nature, and some people can't even escape terrorists, unfortunately. But we CAN escape the worst if we prepare - stuff like getting a solar kit can free you from dependence on a shaky and expensive energy system, getting enough seeds to grow your own food frees you from dependence on a food distribution system that keeps raising prices and relies on the undependable energy system to ship food to you, learning how to reuse and recycle everything helps you make as little negative impact on the environment as possible. Even just having a first aid kit and a few days supply of food in case your power is knocked out by a storm is doing something proactive to help yourself. So yes, I try to do those things as much as I can so I can feel I have some options when the rest of the world is out of my control.

If you do what you can to prepare for the worst (while still hoping for the best), Roxann, you will at least feel like you did everything you could for yourself and your son. It's great peace of mind, so that even if you can't shake off the fear that the worst might be on its way, you will be able to stay calm. But I want to emphasize again - DON'T PANIC! Read a little more on the subject, and don't rely on Hollywood for your information. The news out there about 2012 is really mostly very good, and the hysterical hype, while it sounds interesting and occasionally plausible, pretty much falls apart on closer examination.
